The Camera Obscura

Direct from the Nerd files

In the long long ago, there was a documentary, called the “Genius of Photography”. It was ultimately about the history of photography and it’s evolution throughout history, the main key “players/ rollers/ hip-hoppers/ be-boppers”. There was a segment on the first camera, called the Camera Obscura (Latin; “camera” is a “vaulted chamber/room” + “obscura” means “dark”= “darkened chamber/room”). Although i’d had heard of this phenomenon and obviously used it as everyone does when they used a camera, i had never actually seen the original concept in action until i saw this documentary.

Below is the excerpt from the documentary that actually shows a whole room, blackened, with one pinhole, that opens up the world in almost a different dimension. Yes this is nerdy, but you can’t deny the fact that without the science behind it, we wouldn’t have photography and we graphic designers would probably be without jobs…unless you can draw….or paint….which i can’t.
