The 2 million dollar, 415km/h moving canvas. The Bugatti Veyron super sport.

Here at OnQue we are always interested in technology and beautiful design regardless of what sort of design and/ or technology it is. A few of here just quietly, are fans of beautiful exotic cars. I for instance own a beautiful 1998 Honda Civic, imported from the rare Akaishi Mountains where it was forged by hand out of the very metals found in the rocks.

Sitting in school both primary and High School I used to sit a draw what i thought would be my dream car. Necessarily large wheels, never really could get the front right a obviously a huge spoiler, because they make the car go faster.

Although my car I own and used to sketch is indeed exotic, it really pales in comparison to this beautiful German owned (Volkswagen) marvel of design and technology.

Better leave us to it Ladies we could be on the subject for a while.

It is called the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

Watch the Top Gear “review” of the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. Bugatti’s answer to the fastest production vehicle from America, the Shelby Ultimate Aero.

The Bugatti Veyron is known as the world fastest production car, reaching a speed of 407km/h, 0-100km in under 4 seconds and has a 8 Litre Quad Turbo W16! What is a W16? Think of two 4 Litre V8 engines and put them side by side and fit them in a car. We are talking about the original Veyron, the super sport weighs 40kgs less and has 200 more Horsepower, increasing acceleration and corning, as well as a top speed of 415km/h limited to stop the tires from exploding into orbit. Then there is the issue of making this car Aerodynamic but still looking like a million bucks…which is half the price tag of this car.

The exterior of the car was designed by Jozef Kabaň of Volkswagen but i think the crown jewel in terms of design in this car is the interior. The colours, type of leather and even the stitching are customizable. I particularly love the matte finish of the metal side by side with the leather. Keeping in with Bugatti’s roots firm in the 50’s but giving a huge injection of 2010. Everything ties into Bugatti’s original business of making Aeroplane parts. The air conditioner vents and dials all are very reminiscent of the sleek lines of the 50’s planes.

In terms of technology, well unlike other super cars, you get comfort, well you get very comfortable.

“The Burmeister CD player alone is constructed to operate without a single skip at 250 miles per hour…the control panel is designed to be seen at such high speeds without distracting the driver.”

The driver enters the navigation destination using the touch-screen interface on an included Hewlett-Packard iPaq HX2000 PDA running Bugatti’s own custom software.

The iPaq also serves as the conduit for pairing a phone with Bluetooth to the car, and runs a utility called Bugatti View, which gives drivers a summary of the car’s activities. It presents the pressure of all four tires, and reports on how much engine power has been used while driving, the car’s average speed, the lateral and longitudinal acceleration and even tire temperatures.

All of this is kind of cool, but once you decide you want to hit top speed, everything become so much cooler. Enter the ignition key into the secret compartment beside the drivers seat and this lowers the Veyron to a shade over 2-1/2 inches off the ground and trims the rear spoiler to a scant 2 degrees of angle for reduced drag, and closes off the front diffuser flaps to maintain the correct balance of front-to-rear grip.

When the ride ends, a touch of the brake pedal deploys the aircraft-like air brake. It isn’t a thrust reverser like airliners use, but it stands the rear spoiler up to a 55-degree angle, increasing the Veyron’s coefficient of drag from .36 to .68 and delivers more breaking power than a family cars whole braking system.

There has been a huge amount of detail gone into this car. It truly is a work of art, a moving canvas. I’m thinking of getting one, well two actually, one for the week days and one as a weekender. All i have to do now is ask the boss for a pay rise.
